Take Time and Unplug: Why Vacations are Important!

I am a firm believer that everyone needs to unplug. What do I mean by unplug? I mean getaway from social media, email, work, and television. Just relax. As a mother, I understand that it is hard to think about a vacation when we are so busy providing and caring for our children and tending to our husbands. STOP! We all need time to decompress.

Every year the husband and I go on a trip alone (read about our anniversary trip here) and we take a second trip with the female children. Our trip alone is our time to reconnect with one another without distractions aka our kids. We are able to have conversations without every third conversation being about the kids. Time alone with your spouse is important and you need that time to reconnect with one another. Take advantage of your time away and sleep in. It is the small things that mean so much when your children wake up no later than 6:30 am seven days a week. The second trip is all about the kids and creating new memories that they probably will not remember because they are so young. We enjoy this spending time with the girls completely unplugged from work (Tip: remove your work email from your phone while vacationing) and other random distractions.

Here are 5 reasons for a little R&R:

  1. It is good for your health! Vacations allow time for you to decompress meaning letting go of the stress that life brings.
  2. You are creating new memories. Whether you are with your spouse or if you include the kids on your vacay, memories are priceless.
  3. You will return a happier person!
  4. Lots of Sex! When it’s just you and your spouse of course. Again, we have toddlers.
  5. Many of us get paid vacation. TAKE IT!!!

I know that finding the time and the resources to take a vacation can be problematic. My husband and I have decided to gift one of my followers with a 5-day 4-night vacation to St. Augustine, Florida in a 4.5-star resort. Why St. Augustine? He’s a history buff and I don’t ask questions or it will lead to a conversation that will last longer that I am willing to listen.

  1. I am not a mom or wife but I do Grind. As an educator I feel married to the job and like a mother of over 200 young adults. In my small town I run into these young adults daily outside of work. I DEFINITELY enjoy getting away where I can just relax and unwind not worry if my student is serving me my adult beverage. LOL..Great Blog
