Why Mint is great for your household!

You don’t know this but I consider myself a gardener. When I was 13 years old my first job was in an urban garden in my home city of Atlanta. For two summers, I worked for a $200 stipend which was a lot of money for a 13-year-old. In those two summers, I learned everything I needed about gardening. Not really, but it sounds good. Fast forward 18 years and I have a small garden in my front yard.

A couple of years ago I started to garden again to relieve stress. The first thing I planted was mint. Mainly because I knew it was hard to kill. I absolutely love mint! While pregnant mint water or mint leaves would quickly ease my headaches, gas, or nausea. After giving birth I nursed both of my girls and often suffered from sore nipples from nursing and mint leaves soothed the pain. Today my kids love to graze off my mint plants and I encourage them to do so. Mint has several health benefits that make keeping a plant around worth wild. Here are some mint health benefits:

  • Promotes Digestion
  • Provides relief from nausea and headaches
  • Clears congestion: Great for people with asthma or other respiratory issues. A great herb to keep around for the kiddos to help with congestion.
  • Improves oral health
  • Soothes sore nipples when breastfeeding (apply topically)

If you want to test your green thumb give mint a try. I promise you will be successful.
